Raspberries for Mommy

I was telling my mom about a week ago that Kaden doesn't just give kisses, he blows raspberries on your cheek (or nose or forehead haha) or arm. I took a video of it back in November, but never posted it thinking I would get a better one at some point. But with Kaden starting to walk it is becoming increasingly harder to get videos of him because he doesn't stay in one place for more than a few seconds. Nevertheless, here is the video from back in November.

Recipes

If you are like most of the other people out there who eat the same thing week after week, then you get bored quickly. I finally got fed up with tacos every night, and tried a few healthy, and a few comfort-food ones! Ill just give you a couple of my favorites from this past week.

The first one is from a book my mom gave me for Christmas a few years ago. The book is called "Easy 1001 Slow Cooker Recipes." It is as follows:

Creamy Chicken and Potatoes
4 boneless skinless chicken breast halves (we used 5 or 6 smallish frozen ones)
2 tsp chicken seasoning
8-10 small new potatoes (we used 4-5 bigger regular russet potatoes)
1 (10 oz) can cream of chicken soup
1 (8 oz) carton sour cream

Season chicken and place in bottom of crock pot. Cover chicken with cubed potatoes. Combine sour cream and cream of chicken soup and spread over the top of everything. Cover and cook on low for 4-6 hours.(Sorry didn't take a picture!)

This was got raving reviews from us! Justin said it was one of the best crock pot meals ever and Kaden has eaten it for the past several days without turning his nose up at it- which I take as a good sign :) Its really creamy and delicious and the chicken just falls apart!

The next one I found on Pinterest (my new addiction). Since we have a broken car, it is difficult for me to go to the grocery store as often as I would like, so I decided to make myself some Homemade Snickers! (I will just put the link, because there's a lot of type.) I did change the caramel out for my own caramel recipe, but it would be much easier doing it their way.

Another one I used was for lunch one day. I found the recipe here:
http://www.pillsbury.com/recipes/california-crescent-sandwiches/96a87d20-a13a-4830-a2e6-79e892e815be/
I really liked this one because it was super easy, it didn't sit in my stomach like a rock, I had most of the ingredients, and I was able to save the "flatbread" for several days.  Not to mention you can do pretty much anything with this sandwich!

The last one was the most fun to make and had the fewest ingredients-Jello Pinwheels!
http://www.joyofjello.com/?p=1085
Gelatin Pinwheel/ Fruity Roll-Ups
1 (3 oz.) pkg. jello
1/2 cup water
1 1/2 cups miniature marshmallows (or 12 large marshmallows)
Lightly spray an 8 or 9 inch pan square pan with non-stick cooking spray and make sure it is spread well.
Bring water to a boil in microwave- about 1 minute.   Add gelatin and stir well.  Return to microwave for 1 minute and stir well.  (This step ensures that jello is completely dissolved.)
Add marshmallows and return to microwave for 45 seconds to 1 minute or until marshmallows are puffed and slightly melted.  Whisk until marshmallows are completely dissolved.  Creamy layer will float to the top.
Pour into prepared pan.  Refrigerate 45 minutes or until well set- they should be very firm and easy to handle.  Loosen edges with a knife.  Starting at one end, roll up tightly.  With seam side down, cut into 10-12 (1/2) inch slices.  We found it easiest to cut with a piece of thread or dental floss.  Just put the string around roll-up, cross and pull.
They come out like jello-jiggler rolls. Which is perfectly great, cause they are super yummy!
Well enjoy and let me know if you make any of these and what you think!

New Discoveries

Kaden took his first steps yesterday!! The first time he did it, was to get a spoon he was playing with. The next time was to get ice cream :) He's growing up so fast, I can't believe his first birthday is in less than 2 months!

Crazy!!

This week has been a really crazy week. Justin has had (going on) 5 tests, goes to bed and wakes up at crazy times because he is studying so much, especially this week. And even though Kaden and I don't go many places, we have found that you don't need to leave to stay busy. And its only Wednesday.

Regardless of the things we have going on, its all worth it. We are grateful for our callings, that we get to be in Young Men/Women together, and for Justin being in school and being diligent in his schoolwork and for the things he is learning. We are grateful for Kaden and that every day he grows and learns new things. I'm so very blessed to be able to stay at home with him and enjoy his childhood.

We have always had people tell us, "Oh your baby is so big." Yes, we know he is big. But we haven't really thought about how big (tall) he is, until just recently. He is in the 90th percentile for height and weight. Kaden stood next to a 2 1/2 year old, and was only about 4 inches shorter than the toddler, anyway you get the picture. He continues to pull himself up on everything he can get his hands on, which is unfortunate because he is so tall. I wasn't expecting to have to deal with this whole pulling-things-off-the-counter thing for at least another 6 months or so. Stuff he can now pull himself up on: the table- including the tablecloth and Mommy's sewing machine; inside the tub, or outside- he's almost fallen out several times; the stove; the oven door; door handles (luckily he hasn't figured out how to open them); the bottom kitchen cupboards and drawers; the trashcan, which he tips over and climbs inside; takes most of the bowls and cups out of the top rack on the dishwasher.

A few of Kaden's mischievous daily do's:
Turns the DVD player/Wii/Cable Box on and off- he really likes the lights
How to pull the DVDs off the shelves and swish them on the floor
Goes underneath- like tunnels, chairs and
How to really play Peek a Boo by jumping or ducking behind things
Starting to put shapes in corresponding spaces of his shape sorter puzzles
He understands labels, mama, dada, ball, doggie etc
     How to feed Hiccup
     How to yell for Hiccup
How to climb inside the cupboards and pull everything out
How to push, walk and run with his toy car
Repeat about 15 times a day and throw in a nap or two and that is our typical day at home :)

Wish you all could be here to see how he is growing! We love you and miss you all!
